Caleb Merrill collected three hits in three at bats, as South Burlington defeated Champlain Valley Silver 11-4 on Tuesday. Merrill singled in the first inning, singled in the sixth inning, and singled in the fifth inning.
Champlain Valley Silver opened the scoring in the first with one run on one and a fielder's choice.
The Home Team jumped into the lead in the bottom of the first when an error scored one run, Merrill singled, scoring two runs, and Shreyas Sarepalli singled, scoring one run.
South Burlington added one run in the second and scored on a wild pitch, making the score 5-1.
A single by Maddox DuBois extended the South Burlington Babe Ruth lead to 6-1 in the bottom of the third inning.
Will Smith, Declan Scavone, and Merrill each threw shutout innings for SB Babe Ruth in relief.
SB had patience at the plate, accumulating nine walks for the game. Scavone and Sarepalli led the team with two walks each. Scavone, Merrill, and Sarepalli each stole multiple bases as SB Babe Ruth ran wild on the base paths, collecting a total of eight stolen bases for the game.
Next up for South Burlington is a home game taking Team 1 from Barre on Tuesday June 18th. Saturday’s game on June 15th is postponed and will be rescheduled.
