South Burlington Wildcats couldn't keep up with Montpelier Post 3 and fell 13-1 on Monday.
Montpelier jumped out to the lead in the top of the first inning after Nick Casey singled, scoring two runs, Jackson Palermo singled, scoring one run, and a steal of home scored one run.
Post 3 added to their early lead in the top of the third inning after Palermo singled, and Ethan Wichrowski walked, each scoring one run.
Montpelier scored five runs on three hits in the top of the fourth inning. Cam Burke doubled, scoring one run, Casey singled, scoring one run, a wild pitch scored one run, Dom Concessi singled, scoring one run, and Tanner Arsenault grounded out, scoring one run.
Matt Fecteau earned the win for Post 3, allowing two hits and one run over four innings, striking out one and walking one.
Sebastian Parent took the loss for South Burlington going three and one-third innings, allowing 10 runs (nine earned) on nine hits, striking out five and walking five.
Cedric LaMothe and Mason Sweetser each collected one hit for the Wildcats. LaMothe led South Burlington with one run batted in. He went 1-for-2 on the day. The South Burlington Wildcats turned one double play in the game.
Montpelier Post 3 collected 11 hits in the game. Casey provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led Post 3 with five runs batted in and went 4-for-4 on the day. Palermo collected two hits for Montpelier in three at bats. Post 3 had a strong eye at the plate, tallying nine walks for the game. Trevor Arsenault and Burke led the team with two free passes each. Arsenault stole two bases. Montpelier didn't commit a single error in the field. Burke had the most chances in the field with four.
