South Burlington Breeze Past Essex

South Burlington Wildcats won big over Essex Post 91 18-2 on Wednesday.

 

Post 91 opened the scoring in the bottom of the second thanks to two singles. Essex first got on the board when Sam Bent singled, scoring one run.

 

South Burlington flipped the game on its head in the top of the fourth, scoring five runs on five hits to take a 5-2 lead. The biggest blow in the inning was a double by Aiden Gray that drove in two.

 

Wildcats scored seven runs on seven hits in the top of the seventh inning. Adam Littlefield doubled, scoring two runs, Kaiden Quinn singled, scoring one run, Gray singled, scoring one run, Mason Sweetser hit a sacrifice fly, scoring one run, and Cedric LaMothe singled, scoring two runs.

 

Quinn earned the win for the Wildcats. The right-handed pitcher surrendered eight hits and two runs over five and one-third innings, striking out four and walking four. Eric Hernandez took the loss for Post 91. The left-handed pitcher went three and one-third innings, giving up five runs on five hits, striking out one and walking two. Liam Wheeler pitched one and two-thirds innings of scoreless ball for South Burlington in relief. The right-handed pitcher surrendered zero hits, striking out none and walking one.

 

South Burlington collected 15 hits in the game. Gray seized on his opportunities going 2-for-5, leading the South Burlington Wildcats with three runs batted in from the number seven spot in the lineup. Wheeler, the Wildcats's number nine hitter, led the team with three hits in five at-bats. Sebastian Parent, LaMothe, Littlefield, and Liam O'Connor each collected multiple hits for South Burlington. The Wildcats had a strong eye at the plate, collecting eight walks for the game. Parent, Kyle Tanis, and Littlefield led the team with two free passes each. South Burlington turned one double play in the game. The Wildcats didn't commit a single error in the field. Tanis had the most chances in the field with seven.

 

Vince Koval led Essex with two hits in three at bats. Hazen Randall and Bent each drove in one run for Post 91.
