The South Burlington Wildcats were victorious against Essex Post 91 7-3 on Day 2 of the Vermont American Legion Baseball State Tournament.
South Burlington were the first to get on the board in the second when Sebastian Parent grounded out, scoring one run.
Post 91 captured the lead, 3-1, in the top of the fifth when James Ripley doubled, scoring one run, and Vince Koval singled, scoring two runs.
The Wildcats captured the lead, 4-3, in the bottom of the fifth when Kyle Tanis drew a walk, scoring one run, and Adam Littlefield singled, scoring two runs.
Bennett Campbell earned the win for South Burlington. He allowed one hit and zero runs over two and two-thirds innings, striking out three and walking one. Sam Bent took the loss for Essex. The southpaw went one and two-thirds innings, surrendering three runs (two earned) on two hits, striking out one and walking one. Abbot Terkel stepped on the hill first for South Burlington. The starting pitcher surrendered five hits and three runs over four and one-third innings, striking out five and walking four. Eric Hernandez stepped on the hill first for Essex. The starting pitcher gave up seven hits and four runs over four and one-third innings, striking out two and walking four.
Littlefield drove the middle of the lineup, leading the Wildcats with two runs batted in. The infielder went 1-for-3 on the day. Cedric LaMothe and Liam O'Connor were a force together in the lineup, as they each collected two hits for South Burlington. The Wildcats turned one double play in the game. South Burlington didn't commit a single error in the field. Tanis had the most chances in the field with nine.
Koval drove the middle of the lineup for Essex with two runs batted in. He went 1-for-3 on the day. Ripley, Christopher Morgan, Koval, Nico Ciano, David Harris, and Carter Tosch each collected one hit for Post 91. Essex turned one double play in the game.
