South Burlington Wildcats were victorious against Post 5 Brattleboro 5-2 on Tuesday in the semifinals of the Vermont American Legion Baseball Tournament.
A double by Adam Littlefield put South Burlington on the board in the bottom of the first.
Aidan Davis singled, which helped Post 5 tie the game at two in the top of the third.
In the bottom of the sixth, the Wildcats broke up the tie when Kaiden Quinn doubled, scoring two runs. Then a single by Aiden Gray followed to extend the lead to 5-2.
Bennett Campbell earned the win for South Burlington. The righty allowed two hits and zero runs over four innings, striking out none and walking none. Davis took the loss for Brattleboro. The starting pitcher went six innings, giving up five runs on six hits, striking out two and walking four. Cedric LaMothe led things off on the hill for South Burlington. The left-handed pitcher gave up two hits and two runs (one earned) over three innings, striking out one and walking six.
Campbell, LaMothe, Kyle Tanis, Littlefield, Quinn, and Gray each collected one hit for the Wildcats. Littlefield and Quinn were a one-two punch in the lineup, as each drove in two runs for South Burlington. The Wildcats turned one double play in the game.
Davis led Post 5 with one run batted in. The pitcher went 2-for-3 on the day. Karson Elliott led Brattleboro with two walks. Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, piling up six walks for the game. Post 5 didn't commit a single error in the field. Jackson Emery had the most chances in the field with six.
The Wildcats move on to the championship game taking on the Manchester Union Underground on Wednesday at St. Peter's Field. First pitch is 1:00 PM.
