South Burlington Wildcats Win In Fashion, Walk It Off Versus Franklin County Post 1

It came down to the wire on Wednesday at Veterans Memorial Park, as the South Burlington Wildcats grabbed the victory in walk-off fashion, 10-8, over Franklin County Post 1.  Wildcats were down 8-7 in the bottom of the seventh inning when Will LaMothe doubled, scoring three runs.

 

South Burlington collected 11 hits and Franklin County had 15 in the high-scoring affair.

 

Franklin County Post 1 got on the board in the top of the third inning after Luke Burns singled to right field, Beau Reynolds singled down the right field line, and South Burlington Wildcats committed an error, each scoring one run.

 

Matthew Chamberlain earned the win for the Wildcats. The right-handed pitcher allowed 12 hits and eight runs (six earned) over five innings, striking out four and walking three. Reed Stygles took the loss for Post 1. The right-handed pitcher went one and two-thirds innings, giving up five runs on five hits, striking out two and walking none. Sebastian Parent led things off on the mound for South Burlington. The starting pitcher allowed three hits and zero runs over two innings, striking out none and walking none. Gavin Nichols started on the mound for Franklin County.  The starter allowed six hits and five runs (three earned) over five innings, striking out six and walking three.

 

The Wildcats piled up 11 hits in the game. LaMothe, the number nine hitter for South Burlington, led the way with three runs batted in. The infielder went 2-for-3 on the day. Coleton Merchant led the Wildcats with three hits in four at bats. Chamberlain and Jack Foster each collected multiple hits for South Burlington. Foster stole two bases.

 

Franklin County Post 1 amassed 15 hits in the game. Evan Marchessault provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led Franklin County Post 1 with two runs batted in. The outfielder went 2-for-5 on the day. Nichols led Franklin County with four hits in four at bats. Reynolds and Reagan Baumeister each collected multiple hits for Post 1. Franklin County turned two double plays in the game.
